PARK PLANNING & THE YOSEMITE VALLEY PLAN
What is the Yosemite Valley Plan (YVP)?
What projects are included in the YVP?
How can I get more information on the YVP and on other Yosemite
National Park planning efforts?
What
is the Yosemite Valley Plan (YVP)?
The YVP incorporated the 1992 Concessions Services Plan (CSP), the 1996 Draft
Yosemite Valley Housing Plan (YVHP), the 1997 Yosemite Lodge Design Concept
Plan (DCP) and Yosemite Falls Plan (not yet released to the public) and serves
as an means of implementing provisions of the GMP. The YVP underwent a public
review process before being finalized in December 2000. Over 26,000 comments
were evaluated and used to finalize the plan.
What
projects are included in the YVP?
Hundreds of projects, including those related to overnight accommodations,
transportation, employee housing, park operations facilities, resource restoration,
and visitor services and interpretation, are listed in the YVP. These projects
have been prioritized and are expected to be implemented over a 20-30 year
period.
The "Yosemite Valley Plan Project List" that was submitted to Congress identifies 15 park projects expected to be completed by September 2004. These include reconstruction of the Yosemite Lodge area for guests, building flood-damaged concession employee housing, improving the Yosemite Falls visitor area, evaluating parkwide locations for additional campsites, improving in-park shuttle bus service, designing a new Indian Cultural Center, rerouting some roads in the Valley and removing the deteriorated diversion dam on the Wild and Scenic Merced River.
