Free Entrance at National Parks for June 22-23 Weekend in Support of the President's Healthier U.S. Initiative

National Park Service Press Release
June 13, 2002

In response to the announcement of the President's "Healthier US Initiative,"
the National Park Service will be waiving all
entrance fees to the national parks, including Yosemite, on June 22-23, 2002.

This gesture was made to highlight the important role national parks play in making the lives of all Americans healthier, both mentally and physically. The National Park Service is using it as an opportunity to remind Americans of the beneficial role parks play in their lives.

The focus of this entrance fee free weekend will be solely on national, not state nor local, parks.
This fee free weekend in June will be in lieu of the annual Fee Free Day on August 25 (Founder's Day). This year parks will not be required to waive entrance fees on August 25.

Entrance Fees, Commercial Tour Fees, and Transportation Fees (Entrance)
All park entrance fees, including commercial tour entrance fees and transportation entrance fees, will be waived for June 22-23, 2002. Whether a
park is collecting an entrance fee under the Land and Water Conservation Fund Act, the Recreational Fee Demonstration Program, or the National Parks Omnibus Management Act of 1998, the fee will be waived.

Length of Stay/Daily Entrance Permits
A park must provide free entrance for the 2 days.

Use Fees
Use fees will not necessarily be waived. Check with the park you intend to visit to see if there are other fee waivers.
